Jaipur’s First International Food Festival, ‘Gourmet Getaway’ To Every Gastronome’s Delight

‘Foodie’ is the new religion that all of us follow with vigor and hunger. In past few years, Jaipur has witnessed multi-fold increase in the number of food joints. The city has also embraced so many multi-faceted events curated about and around food. Baking & cooking workshops, chocolate tasting, chaat trails, buffet evenings – we have had it all. But an International Food Festival? Well, we’ve been missing that all this while. But not anymore!


What Is The Talk Of The Town?

Jaipur just got a little more gastronomical with the first edition of Gourmet Getaway International Food Festival, and that obviously is in the air. This one-day culinary affair was set up at the magnificent Nand Mahal, an ancient haveli with rustic architecture surrounded by lush green gardens, on 11th March 2017. Sounds Perfect? Ah, ‘Twas!

A festival all about food is a gourmet lovers’ delight, and hence the name “Gourmet Getaway”. The name already signals towards some serious gastronomy.



How Tasty Was The Event?


Well, to be honest, VERY!

Not just for food experts, connoisseurs and chefs, Gourmet Getaways like every foodie’s the place to be! The event aimed at creating a community that shared a mutual interest and appreciation for world cuisines.
Sampling dishes, speaking with mouthfuls, relishing the desserts, chewing on delicious munchies and discussing food with wagging spoon in the right hand and empty plate on the left. All this action with the backdrop of aromas in the air and lip smacking food for grabs. This Food Festival served happiness just in a spoonful.


Highlights Of The Event



Lavish Delicacies From Around The World

With having live food stations from different countries, the evening fumed with global delicacies such as Teppanyaki from Japan, live barbecue and Fondue counters, special Galouti food from Awadh and authentic Mediterranean treats, among others.


Amidst that tasty show, what grabbed most eyeballs was live wood fired Pizza, hosted by an Italian chef, Antonio Scirroco, who by his innovative pizza-making style at the counter won our hearts!

Even a small portion of sweet tooth counter was enough to give us a sugar rush and French style ice-cream counter, hosted by Nathalie, who came all the way from Paris, was a cherry on the cake! Cheese Island and refreshing sangrias tantalized taste buds of the guests and stimulated all the feels for an experience worth cherishing.


Stars For The Evening

The event was graced by the presence of celebrity chef Vicky Ratnani, former minister for Tourism, Art and Culture Bina Kak, a member of the Jaipur’s erstwhile royal family- Narendra Singh, fashion designer Himmat Singh, writer Dharmendar Kanwar, actors Rajat Barmecha and Rahul Singh, among others.

“This festival is a one-day event designed to showcase the varied choices of international flavors and cuisines under one roof.  This is just the beginning, we want to make it an annual affair and would introduce new innovative concepts each year, this will help us to promote the diversity, creativity, multicultural culinary and provide people a platform where they can come and share their knowledge about food.” – said Dushyant Singh, Curator of Gourmet Getaway, also the Director of On The House Bistro.


Dushyant has been globetrotting for years only to experience food and culture of different gastronomical destinations around the world. Through this festival, by placing food on such a high pedestal, he has depicted his irresistible love for good food.
